So far in China, logistically the trip has not been very successful. Xi’an has been no exception 🙁
Arriving in Xi’an city. There was a problem finding our accommodation. Locals pointing us in the wrong direction.
After finally finding our hotel, one of the guys that gave us the wrong directions was at the Hotel checking in!!!
To cut a long story short, our room had been double booked and at 1:30am we had no where to stay!
Finding a Hostel across the road we decided to stay there for the night. Which was a less than pleasant experience.
The next day we were up nice and early. First on the agenda was to find a new Hotel and then off to see the Terracotta Warriors.
Finding a new Hotel was easy. Finding the Terracotta Warriors was not so easy. I could write a 100 page blog on hurdles we come across on the way to the Terracotta Warriors but it makes me angry just thinking about it! and this blog is meant to be about photos and not turn into a novel.
Again cutting a long story short we were left with about 1 hour to see the Warriors. (Just a bit of advice for anyone that has any plans on visiting the Terracotta Warriors. Allow at least 4-5 hours to enjoy it fully)
At present the Terracotta Warriors are undercover in 3 pits. Pit number 1 is the main pit and measures 230m x 62m and covers an area of 14,260 square metres. So far 2000 Warriors and Horses and 20 wooden Chariots within 4,000 square metres have been unearthed.
It is estimated 6000 Terracotta Warriors, Horses and Chariots are in Pit 1.
The most fascinating thing about the Terracotta Warriors is no two Warriors are the same. Each individual Warrior and Horse is hand crafted (Not using moulds) and is the carving of a real life warrior.
Anyways here are some pictures. Hope you enjoy 🙂
